All of us at some point of time have come across the For Dummies series of guides that explain things ranging from operating systems to economics for readers in a very simple and non obtrusive manner.

Instead of containing techno-speak and being full of jargon, these books are easy to understand and are written in a down to earth manner.

There is a lot of confusion about how to lose weight. Let us try to get to the point in a straight no nonsense manner.

The food that we eat contains calories. We derive energy from burning calories. Unutilized calories are stored in the form of fat. If we eat more calories than we spend then we are bound to gain weight.

How do we go about losing the excess weight that we have gained by not burning enough calories? We can cut down on the food that we eat or go on a diet and starve ourselves. That doesn’t sound like too much fun! Does it?

We can begin by eating the right food at the right time in the right way. To begin with, the right food means foods that are low in saturated fat and carbohydrates. That would mean we ought to cut down on junk food, fried food, refined food and food containing high calories with little or no nutrition,

Eat food at the right time. Never, ever skip breakfast. That is a mistake a lot of people make. They end up binge eating during the day because they skipped out on breakfast!

Eat food the right way by concentrating on the food you eat. Don’t eat in front of the TV watching the football game. Be conscious of the food that you eat. Eat slowly, deliberately and savor each bite.

Did I say Exercise? I must have forgotten! We have to exercise!  Exercise and the right food together will help you to lose weight.

Drink lots of water. Water is good for the body as it helps us to digest and breakdown the food that we eat into nutrients.

These are just a few tips that could help you to lose weight. Follow a lifestyle based on a common sense and rational approach and you will definitely lose weight.
