Many things have to be taken in to account in a Weight Loss Diet Program. A program should have a starting point, which you have to decide and to follow through for best results.

How do you begin a diet program for weight loss?

The first thing you should do before starting is to buy a food diary. You have to record everything, the food you eat, the time of meal etc. The record will help you to know about yourself, the emotional states that you go through and your temptations. It will help you observe, monitor and control how much you actually eat.

Do not set imaginary or unrealistic goals. Do not go bragging that you will lose 50 pounds in a couple of months. Instead, set achievable goals and be determined to see them through. You could set a target to lose one pound in a week. Simply get a good night’s sleep and avoid highly carbonated sweets. Avoid sugary foods as such foods have very little nutritional value and are high on calories.

Water is the elixir of life. Drink as much water as you can. You should drink at least eight glasses of water per day. Water cleanses the system and rids the body of toxins. It also helps in minimizing your cravings as it keeps the stomach full.    
 
You might find it tough to start working on your own. A like-minded friend is surely a strong motivating factor. If you are in a support group, you are most likely to succeed in your efforts to lose weight than when you are alone.  

For your weight loss program to succeed, substitute an activity for eating. You could head for a health club or take a walk in the park. This is very useful to curb anger driven eating.

You can have carbohydrates before bedtime such as slice of bread to curb your hunger pangs. Keep a glass of water or an orange slice handy.  

If you monitor what you eat and you have a strong will power, then you will have little difficulty in controlling your urges. Of course, you can forgive yourself the occasional transgression.

Do not forget to weigh yourself at least once a week but at the same time of the day. It is because your weight actually fluctuates throughout the day. You may be heavier at night than during the day.

While you are on Weight Loss Program, just avoid fattening liquids and finger foods as you can consume them in large quantities. When you are hungry, do not go shopping, as you are more likely to buy fattening products.

Fattening liquids include alcoholic beverages. To ward off hunger pangs keep plenty of crunchy foods like air-popped fat-free popcorn and raw vegetables handy. These products are high on fiber thereby supplementing your weight loss program.

Remember that whatever you are doing, you are doing it for your own good. Make it a habit to have your meal on the dining table, not in front of the TV.

You should be consciously aware of what you are eating. You should savor each morsel that you eat slowly and gently, instead of gulping it down. Never skip any meals. Eat a substantial breakfast and have a very light dinner. Chew everything 10 to 20 times. If you can follow the above things in your weight loss program, yours will be a real life success story.
