| Don't Lose Sleep Over Weight, Lose Weight Instead |
|
On finding that they are overweight, most people start eating like birds on the dining table; eating in minute quantities in a desperate hope to slim down. The truth is that the approach works only marginally. Our bodies, a product of millions of years of evolution, have an in-built mechanism to cope with shortage of food. So, when you deprive ourself of the required amount of food, the body simply goes into economy mode and tries to prevent any harm from the low supply of food. It tries to compensate for the loss in the next meal. That is why cutting down on food, by itself is counterproductive. It is not a cure for obesity. You can lose weight for sure, but not overnight. You need to religiously follow a well thought out weight loss program to be successful. Before you embark upon a journey towards fitness, it would be worth your while to remove certain misconceptions relating to weight loss. Researchers have found that most commercial diet program fail to bring about weight loss. Another myth attached to obesity is that it is just because of high calorie intake. This is just partly true. We gain weight not just because we consume more calories but because we lead more sedentary than ever before. If you keep eating without exercising, naturally, you'll gain weight. As simple as that. Dieting without exercising doesn't work in the long run. There is an initial drop in weight, which is becasue of loss of muscle and water. Thus, when the weight returns, it is in the form of fat. Exercise is, hence, an indispensable part of any and every weight loss program. Related Articles
