Downsides of the Atkins Diet
Weight maintenance is an important agenda in everybody's routine. To cater to this, there are several dieting plans to suit individual needs. An Atkins diet refers to a low protein and low carbohydrate diet with a high amount of fats. This is one of the most common of fitness regimes to fight obesity. It  helps you maintain your body weight and lose weight.

The concept behind this diet is very simple. If your intake of carbohydrates is low then the fat, which is stored in your body, will be burned to produce energy. As most of the fat is used for energy, there is very little left for the body to store. Another advantage of this diet is that fats are converted to energy by the body very quickly.

There is however, certain dangers of Atkins diet. You may encounter some unpleasant side effects. The most common side effect that can be seen is the occurrence of the process of ketosis. In this process, due to the excess burning of the fats, elements known as kitones are produced in the body. This condition leads to nausea, dizziness, insomnia, weakness and bad breath. In extreme cases, constipation can occur if you are low on roughage. All the above-mentioned side effects are short term ones.

Apart from them, there are other long-term dangers of Atkins diet. If your intake of saturated fats is high, then the risk of cardiovascular disease goes up. Moreover, a balanced diet is very essential for  proper weight management. Therefore, if you will not include all the essential nutrients then you may suffer from various vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
